Arndorfer Schlehe Amber Wine, Kamptal
Austrian Amber
Tastes like: Yellow Plum. Apricot. Herbal. Bruised Apple. Rhubarb. Bread dough. Bittersweet finish.
When the 1990s boffins in Jurassic Park started using amber encrusted mosquitoes to grow dinosaurs we all expected that science fiction would quickly become a reality. This never came to pass (probably for the best considering everyone in the movie got eaten alive), however one real-life amber resurrection in the decades since has been the ancient practice of making delicious skin contact wines.
This superb organic example comes from the Kamptal region of Austria, North of Vienna, and is made using 85% Grüner Veltliner and 15% Neuburger.
Unfiltered and unfined it’s certainly a low intervention wine so expect some cloudiness and great texture on the mouth.
The wine is aromatic and tangy on the palate with bruised apple, apricot, plum, rhubarb and pepper and a bittersweet finish. Serve chilled. Grab the last few bottles from our stock while you can!
