Montauto Ciliegiolo, Maremma, Tuscany
Hare of the D.O.C.
Tastes like: Cherry. Violet. Dried Herbs. Sweet Tobacco. Firm Tannins.
Italian grape boffins can’t decide if the grape Ciliegiolo is the parent or offspring of the more famous Sangiovese grape. Its name is Italian for "cherry" and the wine is certainly brimming with plenty of red and black cherry flavours.
A third of the wine is aged for 10 months in large wooden barrels to add some complexity and some delicious developed characteristics.
Located in an unspoilt corner of Tuscany only 12km from the coast, this estate makes wines with concentrated flavours yet delicate character, thanks to the hot days and cool nights.
