Minervois AOP, Calmel & Joseph, Languedoc
In Keith Floyd we trust
Tastes like: Crushed strawberry. Blackberry. Spicy notes. Herbs. Black truffle. Menthol.
Our wine buyer Alex was still in short trousers when he was first bewitched by the wine and food of Minervois, having thoroughly enjoyed a 1996 episode of Keith Floyd where he visited the village.
The culinary bon viveur remains a bit of a hero for Alex, who felt compelled to visit the region’s vineyards two decades later - thankfully now of legal drinking age.
The wines he tasted were well worth the wait; oozing with ripe red and black fruit and aromas of the fragrant garrigue herbs which thrive across the sun baked landscape of the Montagne Noire.
And this Minervois AOP is a great example with opulent fruit, spice and and a savoury rustic structure.
As you'd expect the wine is a classic blend of the Languedoc's signature grape varieties ... 60% Syrah, 20% Carignan and 20% Grenache.
They’re hand picked with low yields and then traditionally vinified with minimal filtration making this wine totally vegan friendly.
We think it’s wickedly delicious and we believe Keith would wholeheartedly approve. Bottoms up!
