Mara Martin Godello, Mártin Códax, Monterrei, Galicia
OH. MY. GODELLO!
Tastes like: Russet Apple. Pear. Lime. Hay. Wild blossoms. Wet pebbles.
We think the wines of Galicia deserve a god-like status and if (like us) you already worship at the altar of Albariño then we’d suggest you also make an offering to another of the region’s holy varietals; Godello.
This rather rapturous example comes from a sustainable producer whose Godello grows near picturesque Monterrei on the Spanish/Portuguese border.
The wine has classic Godello characteristics of orchard fruit, lime and hay with pretty wild flower notes and a long finish. Extended time testing on lees before bottling gives it a lovely texture and mouth feel too. Glorious!
Martín Códax focuses on the environment, always seeking sustainable methods in the vineyard and winery and proactively working to minimise their carbon footprint.
