Fábula de Paniza Cariñena, Cariñena DOP
“And for being so honest and sincere, she was given the name of her land: Cariñena.”
Tastes like: Wild Strawberries. Blackberry. Spicy. Wild Herbs. Vanilla.
This delectably gluggable wine will be just as at home with a Sunday lunch or watching the sun go down on a warm summer’s day.
And at this price it's guaranteed to surprise and delight - plus we think it has a super cool label to boot.
The hilly slopes around the village of Cariñena are the original homeland (and namesake) of this fab grape which is perhaps better known by its synonym, Carignan, so you can sup on this tipple knowing it comes from the source!
It’s made by exciting winemaker Antonio Serrano who has sharpened his cellar skills in wineries around the world and prides himself in making honest wines.
“Wine makes itself”, he says modestly of his role: “I just try to make sure that it follows the path dictated by the set of circumstances each year.”
He sees it as a lifelong learning process. The Paniza vineyards, with their stony and slate soils, altitude more than 700 meters above sea level, and decades-old vines, allow for unique place-specific expressions of the DOP Cariñena, he says, “and this is the identity that we must transmit and differentiate in our wines.”
