Loire Sauvignon With Proper Swagger

Tastes like: Lemon Zest. White Peach. Gooseberry. Pear Skin. Elderflower. Wet Stone. Fresh Herbs. Crisp Mineral Finish.

Sancerre has a habit of making Sauvignon Blanc lovers go a bit weak at the knees — and this little beauty shows exactly why. Bright, elegant and gloriously refreshing, Domaine des Brosses delivers everything you want from classic Loire Valley Sauvignon without disappearing into overly sharp “green” territory.

The estate lies just south of the town of Sancerre around the village of Veaugues, where the Girard family farm hillside vineyards planted on classic limestone and clay soils. Domaine des Brosses was originally established in 1875 before being modernised by the family in the 1970s, with Nicolas Girard now leading the estate. The vineyards are spread across six separate parcels, each contributing slightly different layers of freshness, fruit and mineral character to the final blend.

The 2024 vintage is made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc and spends several months ageing on its fine lees to build texture and weight on the palate whilst preserving all that bright citrus freshness and aromatic lift. The combination of cool-climate freshness and beautifully draining limestone soils gives the wine its wonderfully precise mineral edge and mouthwatering tension.

There’s loads going on here — citrus, white flowers, pear, wet stone and subtle herbal notes — but it all stays beautifully poised and incredibly drinkable. Crisp enough for oysters and goat’s cheese, but with enough texture to happily handle grilled fish, roast chicken or giant sunny lunches that somehow drift well into the evening.
