Natural born thriller

Tastes like: Citrus. Apple. Honeysuckle. Wet Stone. Vanilla. Hint of gingerbread.

Our chums are Ancre Hill Estate in Monmouthshire make a host of bodacious bottles using biodynamic practices and with a keen eye on top quality - and this natural white wine is no exception.

It’s made with 100% estate grown Chardonnay by the Morris family who have long shunned the use of chemicals, interventional winemaking and any other nasty business in the vineyard or winery.

16 months left sat on lees and time spent in both oak barrels and stainless steel tanks gives the wine a lovely texture.

It’s unfiltered and unfined too meaning it’s vegan friendly with a bit of natural haziness - chill, uncork and unwind!

Wales - 2020 - 10% - 75cl

Surprisingly good.

This was our first Welsh Chardonnay and its complexity and taste level surprised many of the group. Not sure we would buy it again but it is a good indication of where Welsh wine is in terms of sophistication and being able to bear comparison with other better known sources of Chardonnay.

Disappointing Welsh Chardonnay

I wanted to love this wine so much as I live two fields away from this vineyard.
On pouring my first glass it didn’t have the visual appeal of other Chardonnay appearing quite cloudy and flat.
The taste was ok but nothing that would make me purchase another bottle.
