Azevedo Vinho Verde Loureiro Alvarinho 2022
THE VERDE IS THE WORD
Tastes like: Fresh Citrus Fruit. Nectarine. Stone Fruit. Lime Blossom. Herbaceous. Lively Acidity. Crisp and Clean Finish.
Portuguese wine is full of surprises and there’s a wealth of bodacious wines that punch well above their weight – like this fabulous IWC trophy winning white blend.
This premium Vinho Verde is made from 70% Loureiro and 30% Alvarinho grapes and following fermentation the wine remained in stainless steel for four months, during which time the fine lees were stirred regularly giving it a lovely texture.
Winemaker Fernando Guedes acquired this historic Azevedo estate back in 1982 and immediately had a different vision for the region’s indigenous grapes.
He immediately revolutionised the vineyard by planting 35 hectares of cordon-trained vineyards - shunning the traditional high-trained pergolas - and modernised the rather old school winery.
Fernando has since adopted sustainablefarming practices and plants cover crops between vine rows to improve the soil health and promote biodiversity.
