Hurrah for Harry...

Tastes like: Blackberry. Black Cherry. Spicy. Plums. Subtle Tannins. Oak.

We have another stunning Welsh wine coming from White Castle vineyard near Abergavenny. Owned by Robb and Nicola Merchant, White Castle is brimming with life and character much like their wines. Having purchased the small holding in 1995 they realised their dream of planting vines in 2009. Now they have 10 acres basking in the Welsh sunshine which result in award-winning wines.

Harry is named after the couple’s grandson who will eventually take over the White Castle legacy.

It’s a sumptuous example of Rondo, a grape that’s making big waves in the pioneering Welsh wine world.

It’s aged in French oak resulting in an expressive, medium bodied red wine that’s  dark ruby colour. It’s a top notch timplement that encapsulates the wild Welsh weather, whether that's glorious Summer’s day in Barrybados or being tucked up by a fire in the Brecon Beacons in midwinter.

A surprise

We tasted this as part of U3a Wine Group meeting so 20 attendees. All attendees were positive about this wine, it was fresh, juicy and smooth. It had a range of black fruit flavours notably Blackberry, with no hint of the foxiness sometimes associated with this grape. Well done we really enjoyed this one.
