Château La Hase, Fronsac, Bordeaux
I See You Baby, Shaking That Hase
Tastes like: Black Fruit. Damsons. Violets. Herbal. Cigar Box. Figs. Earthy. Vibrant Acidity. Fine Tannins.
Certified biodynamic Bordeaux is on the up! More and more producers are employing methods in tandem with Mother Nature but seeing bottled aged examples at this price is quite a revelation!
Located near to Fronsac, Château La Hase is a single hectare of vines that are farmed organically and biodynamically - hence the nifty foil embossed moon cycle on the label.
The winery’s owner Jean-Yves Millaire uses a traditional plough rather than weed killers, shuns pesticides and nasty chemicals and picks the grapes by hand - all in all it’s a terrific tipple made with love both for the wine and the local ecology.
The parcel is named 'La Hase' meaning a female hare in honour of M. Millare's grandfather, who initiated him in the art of hunting.
100% Merlot and aged in French oak for 12 months - though the wine shows great purity of fruit and freshness. Some nice developed flavours emerging too so you could lay it down for a year or two for sure. Drinking brilliantly now though!
