Harry Rondo, White Castle Vineyard, Abergavenny
Hurrah for Harry...
Tastes like: Blackberry. Black Cherry. Spicy. Plums. Subtle Tannins. Oak.
We have another stunning Welsh wine coming from White Castle vineyard near Abergavenny. Owned by Robb and Nicola Merchant, White Castle is brimming with life and character much like their wines. Having purchased the small holding in 1995 they realised their dream of planting vines in 2009. Now they have nearly 7000 vines basking in the Welsh sun which result in award-winning wines.
Harry is a sumptuous example of a Welsh Rondo. Medium body. Ageing in French oak results in a dark ruby colour. Interestingly Robb used his gut instinct told him to try blending the 2019 with the 2018, and the magic happened. The results are epic and leave us with a wine that is perfect for any day of the week to accompany the wild Welsh weather whether that's glorious sun in Barrybados or tucked up by a fire in the Brecon Beacons in midwinter.

Hand Picked - Welsh Wine
We tasted this as part of U3a Wine Group meeting so 20 attendees. All attendees were positive about this wine, it was fresh, juicy and smooth. It had a range of black fruit flavours notably Blackberry, with no hint of the foxiness sometimes associated with this grape. Well done we really enjoyed this one.
