Champagne Duménil Brut Reserve 25, Premier Cru NV
It's what you keep in reserve that counts
Tastes Like: Rich and Round. Yellow Fruit. Peach. White Flowers. Toast and Brioche.
This independent 5th generation Champagne house was founded in 1874 by Emile-Paul Duménil and today Frédérique, his great grand-daughter, and her husband Hugues Poret are in charge of the Domaine. All their vineyard sites are Premier Cru Classé, spread across the villages of Chigny-les-Roses, Rilly la Montagne, Ludes and Sacy.
The thing that made us add this fabulous Brut Reserve Champagne to our range (other than them being bloody lovely people) is the depth and character of their house style which is the result of them blending in a quarter-of-a-century of reserve wines to add complexity and maturity to this fizz.
When describing this wine to us at our last grand tasting event, Frédérique described the different personalities of some of the late 1990s vintages in the glass so this Champagne could truly be described as multi-vintage rather than non-vintage.
It's made for everyone to enjoy (the Duménil website suggests this is ideal for occasions from weddings to a lunchtime meeting with colleagues - here here!) with the Chardonnay bringing the freshness and the Pinot grapes bringing the "fruity".
