Eschol Red Blend, Trefethen Family Vineyards, Oak Knoll, Napa Valley
Oak Knoll Excellence
Tastes like: Blackcurrant. Dried Cherry. Blackberry. Cedar. Leather. Black pepper. Smooth tannins.
This bodacious Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley comes from a historic winery whose custodians have proudly Welsh roots. Gwych! 🏴
The Trefethens are based in Oak Knoll and have been making a name for themselves since establishing their winery there in the 60s and 70s.
Their much-loved Nana, Catherine, harked from Wales and had a legendary passion for wine which clearly rubbed off on the rest of the family.
The estate has scooped numerous accolades for its sustainability and the Trefethens take pride in promoting biodiversity of plant and wildlife on the vineyard as well as reducing water use and offsetting all their electricity usage with solar panels.
The label epitomises this philosophy and features much of the flora and fauna that lives in the vineyard.
The wine is 84% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Petit Verdot and just a seasoning of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. It spends 18 months in oak, 51% of which is new barrels and this is already seamlessly integrated.
While some Californian red blends can be big and brutish, this wine has oodles of structure, well integrated oak and a wonderful elegance. Dive in!
