Chateau de Durette Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2024
That Nouveau Is So Hot Right Now
Tastes like: Cassis. Red Berries. Fresh. Supremely Fruity. Light.
It’s Beaujolais Nouveau time, when possibly the world’s youngest wine is realised from the cellars of this fabulous French region each year on the third Thursday of November - only a couple of months after after the Gamay grapes were picked!
This year we've sourced our BJ Nouveau from the wonderful Chateau de Durette who have a high sustainability certification for their vineyards.
Historically this curiously youthful, fresh and fruity wine was glugged in Beaujolais to celebrate the end of the harvest but ever since the mid-20th century it’s become quite the excuse for overseas crazed enthusiasts to party too.
In Britain there was a long-running Gumball-style race to see which wine merchants could get the newly Beaujolais Nouveau back to Blighty first. In South Wales ‘Beaujolais Day’ is arguably gives NYE celebrations a run for their money. And in Japan they fill whole swimming pools with the stuff and leap in to lap it up!
Some wine aficionados may raise an eyebrow at this eccentric tradition and rather youthful wine style but we think that the event - like the juice itself - should be embraced and not taken too seriously.
We’ve only secured a couple cases so snap them up fast while stocks last.
