A Mano Negroamaro
Lets have a little Italian tonight!
Tastes like: Juicy crushed berries, dark cherry, candied fig and sweet spices like liquorice.
Here we have a red wine made from 100% Negroamaro picked from a single vineyard in Salice Salentino in Southern Puglia, Italy. The area has a hot Mediterranean climate which receives loads of sunshine hours, so much so that care has to be taken to ensure that the grapes do not get sun burnt.
The vineyard was founded by Mark (a Californian winemaker) and Elvezia (a marketing guru from Friuli), who met and fell in love in Sicily. After taking a trip out to Puglia in 1998, they fell in love with the ancient expanse of beautiful old vines in the area. Being determined to use native Apulian grapes and to respect the tradition and the terroirs where the vines are cultivated - this wine is authentic and holds true to a rich tradition of red winemaking in the area. This wine is a distinctive mix of juicy dark fruits and sweet spices making this wine rich and complex, and well, bloody delicious! It is also a classic foodie wine which makes a marvellous wine to have with rich Italian pastas or pizza.
