Orange Wine, Ancre Hill Vineyard, Monmouthshire
Tangerine Dream
Tastes like: Tangerine. Nectarine. Herbal. Savoury.
Galicia and South Wales have a lot more in common than meets the eye. Both have a proud Celtic heritage, picturesque untamed coastlines, plenty of ‘refreshing’ rain – and you can add to that list the ability to produce remarkable wines from one of our favourite grapes, Albariño.
This limited production skin contact ‘gwin oren’ (that’s Welsh for Orange Wine) from the trailblazing organic and biodynamic folks at Ancre Hill gets snapped up quickly whenever a vintage is released – and we’ve secured a small parcel for Chilled & Tannin customers.
It’s made using predominantly Albariño grapes which are whole bunch macerated for between 30 – 50 days to give the wine fabulous structure, flavour and its distinctive colour.
Fermentation is then finished in both steel tanks and oak barrels after which the wine sits on its lees for 10 months, giving it a lovely texture and complexity.
No filtering or fining or SO2 additions make this a low intervention and unmanipulated masterpiece.
Chill it down and pop that crown cap!
