Old Vine Zinfandel, Gnarly Head, Lodi, California
Locked & Lodi
Tastes like: Blackberry. Juicy Plum. Wild Strawberry. Cinnamon. Toasted Oak. Sweet Spice. Coconut. Full Bodied.
Gnarly by name and gnarly by nature… this is a hell-of-a-wine from California’s premier Zinfandel region. It’s a dense, full-bodied and powerful drop that’s not the for the feint hearted.
Lodi is located South of Sacramento where hot days are tempered by cool nights and cooling influence drifting inland from the San Francisco Bay area.
This region is also famous for its old bush Zinfandel vines which produce lower yields of smaller grape berries that have a concentrated and intense flavour, lending themselves well to making punch vino like this one.
The grapes are harvested in the chill of the early mornings so that they’re warming up by the time they are pressed and fermentation begins in the winery. The wine is then racked into French and American oak to mature and add the rich, spicy and toasty tangs to the final juice. Tasty!
