This is California Cabernet with mountain air running through its veins. Bold and beautifully composed, the 2021 Fission delivers all the depth and concentration you’d hope for from Sonoma Cabernet, but with a freshness and mineral edge that keeps everything wonderfully lifted and refined.

Far Mountain focuses on rugged, high-elevation vineyard sites across Sonoma Valley, crafting wines that capture the energy and character of these dramatic landscapes. Fission is sourced primarily from the historic Alta Vista Vineyard in the Moon Mountain District — a steep, dry-farmed site planted in 1971 on fractured volcanic soils high in the Mayacamas mountains. 

The 2021 vintage shows classic mountain Cabernet character: intense dark fruit, savoury herbs, graphite and wild forest notes balanced by freshness and beautifully defined structure. There’s richness here, certainly, but also tension and restraint — the sort of balance that makes you keep going back for another sip rather than feeling overwhelmed after one glass. 

This absolutely comes alive alongside ribeye steak, slow-cooked beef or anything involving fire, smoke and mildly overambitious barbecue plans.
