Montalcino "Rubio", San Polo, Tuscany
Smells like teen spirit
Tastes like: Red Cherries. Tart berry. Forest Fruits. Blackcurrants. Spice. Leather. Fine tannins.
This wine is like Brunello di Montalcino's fresh faced little brother; untouched by the ravishes of time in oak, complex, still intense but ultimately young, free and raging to be uncorked.
85% of the grapes are Sangiovese, grown on the same hillsides around this ancient medieval town as its more famous older sibling. The rest of the blend is made up of Merlot and Cabernet Franc for added aplomb and freshness.
It spends 10 months aging in stainless steel and another 4 months in bottle, giving it a developed edge.
