Crozes-Hermitage, Domaine Etienne Pochon, Northern Rhone
We have penchant for Etienne Pochon.
Tastes like: Blackberry. Spices. Liquorice. Ripe Red Fruits. Violets. Fine Tannins.
This classic Crozes-Hermitage is from a single 16 ha estate whose custodian is Étienne Pochon. This historical vineyard is certified organic and practicing biodynamic principles and the wine is made from Syrah grapes grown on gravel slopes, aged partly in large oak ‘foudres’ (big barrels).
This is the last of our parcel of the 2015 vintage and with a number of years bottle ageing this wine is delectably developed and ripe for the drinking.
The Chateau here dates back to the 16th century when it was owned by one of mistresses of French King Henry II. Henry was famous for bringing an end to the Italian Wars but then suffered an untimely death in a jousting tournament which laid on to celebrate the start of peace-time. Doh.
