Regent, White Castle Vineyard, Wales
The Prince Regent?
Tastes like: Dark Berries. Rich Cherries.
We have another stunning Welsh wine coming from White Castle vineyard near Abergavenny. Owned by Robb and Nicola Merchant, White Castle is brimming with life and character much like their wines. Having purchsed the small holding in 1995 they realized their dream of planting vines in 2009. Now they have nearly 7000 vines basking in the Welsh sun which result in award winning wines.
Regent as a grape variety is thriving in Wales and we think this is one of the best examples. Well suited to cooler climate vine growing, Regent has taken to the vineyard at White Castle with real aplomb. It has an amazing nose of dark cherry and is perfectly balanced. Nice even tannins help this wine tantalize your taste buds. Some say its the Welsh Beaujolais and give the French a run for their money. We will let you be the judge of that. I am pretty sure Robb would win an arm wrestle against his French counter parts.
