The Montagne (mountain) of Saint Emilion peaks at a whopping 97m... but what it lacks in eye-watering elevation it more than makes up for in the quality and value of the wines it produces. It's still the highest point on the right bank.
The sky-high wine prices of Saint Emilion are enough to bring on a nosebleed but here in this neighbouring AOC the wines share a similar terroir, elegance and structure but come in at a fraction of the cost.
Chateau Rocher-Calon comes from some of the best vineyard sites and is a trademark full-bodied blend of Merlot lifted by a touch of Cabernet Franc. Glorious!
